Watching the Storm Role In

It’s hard for a toddler who wants to play to completely understand why we can’t go out. It gets tiring to say, “It’s too hot,” or “It’s storming” - in other words, “No.”
Today was a day we set the excuses aside and made the best of our situation.
Standing at the door, WOW asked to go out and play. Then the sky opened, and rain poured. I knew we were expecting thunderstorms, but she didn’t. She just saw rain and an opportunity for fun.
She asked again, “Mommy. Go play?”
“You know what? Yeah, let’s go play!”
Before the thunder started, we splashed. WOW ran. She danced. She giggled and yelled, “Look, Mommy, it rainin’!” The stress of daily life melted away with every raindrop - if only for a little while - as a little girl got to play outside.
By the time the storm officially rolled in and the thunder began, she was soaked and beaming.
We both needed that storm today. And sleep came a little easier for a happy toddler tonight.
