Porch Lights on Dark Nights

Porch Lights on Dark Nights

These last two weeks, all the plans my family and I have made seem to fall faster than the leaves right now - and we’ve got some pretty big piles in our neighborhood! It’s felt like every time I get one thing solved, four more pop up in its place. Planned and unplanned doctor visits for myself and WOW, being told FEW is growing well but needs extra monitoring, getting sick on top of the usual pregnancy exhaustion, and then a funeral… it has all been rather frustrating, if I’m honest.

I’m sure some of you understand. Life so often feels like trying to control the chaos that comes, but sometimes it’s just a lot.

During these moments, I have to remind myself that no matter what, God has our back and He has a plan. What we may have planned may not be what needs to get done in that moment. What we see as chaos, God sees as a masterpiece coming together - weaving and pulling the threads to guide us where we need to be. As much as we fight for control, God is the one in charge.

While I didn’t get to sew much, I did finish the seasonal icons and sketch out three new quilt patterns. And while I do have to go to the doctor more often to monitor FEW’s growth, I’ll also get to see her more before she arrives. Despite attending a funeral today for one of my husband’s coworkers and friends, I was able to enjoy time with my family, witness the love and kindness of strangers coming together to honor another, and end the day with a nice dinner with my husband.

All in all, it has been a difficult stretch - but there is always something good to bless the day. Just like the porch light guiding you home on a dark summer’s night, God has you - just follow His lead!

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, we here at Grain and Butter want to wish you a wonderful holiday filled with good food, sweet memories, and time well-spent with the people you love.
