A Taste of Winter!

A Taste of Winter!

These past weekends have been cold. With the cold has come winter weather - ice, snow, and the kind of quiet that settles in when the world slows down.

This weekend, we were able to introduce WOW to about 4 inches of snow (rather than the ice we normally get), along with a slightly rare winter tradition: snow cream. Some of you may not know what that is - and that’s okay. That’s part of why we’re sharing.

Snow cream exists in different forms around the world, but this version comes from the Appalachian region, where it’s less about precision and more about intention. You don’t gather the snow on the first fall. The best snow cream is made from fresh, powdery snow - light and untouched, not packed down or disturbed.

It’s a simple thing, really. A mixing bowl filled with clean, powdery snow. Milk added slowly, just enough to soften it. A few spoonfuls of sugar, a splash of vanilla. Stir gently and eat it right away, before it melts and the moment passes.

It’s not fancy. It doesn’t last. And that’s what makes it special.
